When: Thursday, March 12th, 2026 via Zoom, 1:00PM-2:30PM., EST.

Cost: $30; $45 with CE Credit

Presented By: Carla Levins, LCSW, FT, and Mimi Dambro-Nuttall, LCSW, CT

This professional development session offers clinicians an exploration of the complex and often overlooked experiences of anticipatory, ambiguous, and non-death losses. These losses may arise in the context of relational shifts, role transitions, and identity change. By exploring these types of grief, we acknowledge that these forms of loss often lack social recognition and clear resolution. Clinicians will leave with practical strategies on how to validate these  grief responses and comfort in providing compassionate support to those living with these types of losses.

Through this learning opportunity, attendees will develop the skills to:

  • Define anticipatory, ambiguous, and non-death losses and provide examples of each type of loss.
  • Identify the impact and common responses associated with these types of losses.
  • Apply strategies to support clients who are experiencing these types of losses with empathy and sensitivity.

Professional Development Opportunities for Schools, Groups, and Organizations

Throughout the year, Peter’s Place offers continuing education opportunities and trainings for professionals. Regardless of specialty, most therapists, counselors, and mental health professionals come in to contact with topics or individuals in the space of grief and loss. Despite this, many graduate and training programs do not adequately prepare clinicians to address these themes and dominant culture does not encourage open communication about death and dying. This series was created to provide educational and discussion opportunities on issues related to illness, death, dying and bereavement for helping professionals.
