CHECK BACK MONDAY, OCTOBER 13 TO REGISTER!

Children’s Grief Awareness Day is designed to help us all become more aware of the needs of grieving children — and of the benefits they obtain through the support of others. Children’s Grief Awareness Day is an opportunity to make sure that no child grieves alone.

Join us on Children’s Grief Awareness Day, Thursday, November 20, for a comprehensive overview of childhood grief. We’ll focus on providing tangible, practical strategies, including expressive art interventions, all framed by the Companioning Model. Special attention will be given to navigating the upcoming holiday season and its unique impact on children coping with a significant death.

The presentation aims to offer the following:

  • Discussion and overview: Participants will be able to recognize grief responses in the developing child with a review of contemporary grief theory.
  • Understanding of Childhood Grief Framework: Participants will be able to articulate the core principles of the Companioning Model as a supportive framework for working with children experiencing the death of someone important.
  • Application of Practical Interventions: Participants will be able to identify and implement at least three tangible, practical strategies for supporting children in grief, including the application of expressive art interventions.
  • Recognition of Holiday Impact: Participants will be able to recognize and describe the unique ways the upcoming holiday season may intensify or complicate a child’s grief experience. Specific strategies will be offered to help children and families navigate the emotional challenges and planning associated with the holidays following a death.

Grief Education and Professional Development

Peter’s Place provides educational opportunities for both professionals and community members through which they can enhance their understanding of grief and loss.

Presentations for Professionals & Community Groups

Peter’s Place provides presentations and trainings on many topics upon request. Programs may be tailored to the needs of your organization. Our staff will travel to your location, we can host a training at our facility, or distance learning opportunities are available.

Professional Development Opportunities for Schools, Groups, and Organizations

Throughout the year, Peter’s Place offers continuing education opportunities and trainings for professionals. Regardless of specialty, most therapists, counselors, and mental health professionals come in to contact with topics or individuals in the space of grief and loss. Despite this, many graduate and training programs do not adequately prepare clinicians to address these themes and dominant culture does not encourage open communication about death and dying. This series was created to provide educational and discussion opportunities on issues related to illness, death, dying and bereavement for helping professionals.

Training Fee Structure:
