School-Based Peer Support Groups

Recognizing that there are many families who cannot access our onsite services due to a variety of barriers such as distance, socioeconomic stressors or caregivers’ ability to participate, Peter’s Place brings support to children in their own schools.

Through our school-based program, students who have experienced the death of a significant person can discover their innate capacity to help and support each other (and themselves) as they navigate through grief. Students, counselors, social workers, and teachers report that the program allows participants to integrate their loss experiences into their lives in a meaningful way.

Peter’s Place School-Based Groups:

  • Follow an 8-week curriculum
  • Meet once a week for 45 minutes or one class period
  • Host a minimum of 6 students, maximum of 10 students
  • Support students within two years of age (example 4-6, 9-11, etc.) using developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities
  • School support professionals partner with Peter’s Place clinicians for group facilitation

For consideration in our program:

  • Schools are asked to submit an Agreement Form
  • Students will need to submit an Assessment Form and a Permission Form

Please review and complete the necessary documents below to be considered for a group.

*Students need to submit an Assessment Form (to be completed by the school counselor) and a Permission Form (to be completed by the adult caregiver)
